Solution Focussed Brief Therapy (SFBT) is a short-term goal focussed evidence based therapeutic approach, which helps clients change by constructing solutions rather than dwelling on problems. Brief therapy concentrates on the clients presenting symptoms and current life circumstances and it emphasizes the strengths and resources of the client. It assists the client to view the present from a wider context and utilize more functional understandings that bring about spontaneous and generative change.
The development of SFBT is widely accredited to the work of psychotherapists Steve De Shazer and Insoo Kim Berg in the late 1970s. They were strongly influenced by the work of Psychiatrist Milton Eriksson. Since its development in has become an extremely popular therapeutic approach worldwide .It is used with people of all ages in a variety of settings.it can be used for both individual and couples counselling.
